Adieu, Camarillo. Bonjour, Paris

Widely popular among art connoisseurs, fashion devotees, and newly-weds, the city of Paris possesses international fame as the “City of Light.” Home to the Eiffel Tower, it is also one of the traditional fashion capitals of the world. Its sister city, Rome—also of global prominence—holds a similarly rich history.

From the small town of Camarillo, the art teacher Mrs. Bonnie Mills went on an excursion to Paris free of charge last January. The tour was an orientation trip to get her ready to tour Italy with her own students this incoming spring.

Upon her arrival at the airport, she was joined by many other educators who were also planning on touring foreign destinations with their students in the near future. The group visited tourists’ hotspots, such as the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and the palace of Versailles, and gained informative knowledge on international touring as well as being enlightened by their experiences there.

“It was amazing to look upon art that we had only seen in books. I admit it: I cried when I first saw the Mona Lisa. I was like a child on Christmas morning the entire time,” said Mrs. Mills.

In addition to this trip, Mrs. Mills will also be visiting Italy with her students during Spring Break this year. They will spend two days in Rome before departing to Pompeii, Sorrento, and Capri.

“I lived there (in Italy) for three years in the late 80’s and the early 90’s,” she said  to comment about her feelings toward the Italy trip. “It was wonderful being immersed in a different culture. It was amazing to look upon artworks others can only see in textbooks. The students who are planning the trip with me are as excited as I am. We are counting the days.”
