Dr. Bob Carter, Superintendent of Oxnard Unified High School District, recently made a visit to Cam High. A member of the Stinger staff visited Carter in Mr. Lipman’s office to discuss the upcoming projects and changes happening at Cam High. The list of projects to improve Cam High's campus consists of eight major undertakings, including a pool.
A pool on Cam High grounds is of "high priority" according to Carter. However, there are many steps to be taken in terms of location, geological testing, site plans, hiring architects, and more. For now, the pool is in the developmental stages. The current issue is picking a specific location for the pool to reside. The three potential spots being considered are the outdoor basketball courts, the lower parking lot and baseball field areas, and the upper parking lot. The project is estimated to take from start to finish about three years and cost 3 million dollars. There is no set date for the project to begin and all things are subject to change.
Another major project on the list consists of a Performing Arts Center for Cam High and the Drama Department. This undertaking has the same considerations and steps as the pool facility like deciding its exact location on campus. Currently, the potential sites for the Performing Arts Center are down by the agricultural department or the vacant property in the front of the school. No set date has been set for the start of construction, but the project is estimated to take about three years to complete at a cost of about 11 million dollars. Again, all aspects of the project are subject to change.
There are a few other smaller scale projects proposed to be completed within the year. New stadium lights are to be installed over the summer and completed by September of 2010 with the Boards approval. New roofing is also being set for completion in July. Other projects being considered are wiring for Technology, a Green house for the Agricultural Department, the purchase of additional land.
Along with these many projects, the District plans for no furlough days or layoffs in the coming year. There will also be no increase in class size.
